Golgi Bodies and Baggage Sorting System

Golgi Bodies are single membrane stacked tubes which are further away from the nucleus. In a cell, the main purpose of golgi bodies  is to make/package vesicles. These vesicles transport materials through the cell or to other cells. Another function of the golgi bodies is to modify the new proteins, then process them and sort them for transportation. The golgi bodies also  secrete mucus: they collect and process materials that are to be removed from the cell. So, they get rid of certain materials from the cell.

All airports must contain some sort of a baggage sorting system. This system can be compared to the golgi bodies of a cell.

Golgi Bodies

Baggage sorting systems and golgi bodies are alike in many ways. Baggage sorting systems also sort, label and modify, if they have to. Golgi Bodies perform these same tasks. For example, all the baggage will first be sorted according to the different flights. It will also be labelled according to destination, airlines, flight number etc. Also, if need be it can be modified by the airport staff. If the baggage is too heavy or there are unknown items going through, the baggage sorting system staff might remove some items from the luggage. So, this system performs the same basic tasks: sort, process and modify. The baggage sorting system also needs to get rid of some materials in order to keep the airport/airplanes safe. Again, if the luggage contains dangerous items, they will be removed. So, just as the golgi bodies get rid of mucus, this system gets rid of unwanted materials.

So, in many ways, the golgi bodies are like the baggage sorting system found in an airport.
